Santa Ana, California approves less restrictive food truck ordinance

September 7, 2017

The city council of Santa Ana, California has approved new rules for food trucks, changing the requirement for trucks to operate 500 feet away from a school, park, community center or public playground to a distance of 250 feet, according to The Orange County Register. There are no time restrictions governing how long a truck can operate in a particular location.

The city has instructed its staff to identify electrical power options and other measures to help the trucks.

The ordinance was placed on first reading for final adoption on September 19. The ordinance had been tabled several times since March by council members seeking additional outreach to vendors and other stakeholders.
