The Chicopee Public Schools district, in Massachusetts, is launching a food truck as part of its Farm to School Fresh program.

The program is the district's rebranded foodservice department and the focus is on providing more natural and healthy meals for students, according to a report at The Reminder.

"For the past six or seven years, we've been really focusing on farm to school and providing students with locally sourced options," Farm to School Coordinator for Chicopee Public Schools Greta Shwachman told the news outlet.

The program offers free breakfast, lunch and after school meals and strives to serve local items at least a few times each week.

The food truck is being funded by a $150,000 grant from the state's office and energy and environmental affairs.

"Throughout the pandemic, we were operating a grab-and-go meal program. [The food truck] will be a way to reach families that didn't have access to a vehicle or weren't able to get to our sites," Schwachman said in the report.

The truck should be up and running by month's end.
