Cannon Beach and Seaside, small Oregon cities that restrict food trucks, are reconsidering their restrictions, according to The Daily Astorian.
Mike Selberg, who owns Cannon Beach Distillery, would like to host food trucks in his parking lot since state law requires businesses that serve liquor to have a kitchen on the premises, but he is unable to do so because food trucks are prohibited outside of the weekly farmers market.
Local restaurants object to allowing food trucks, since they see the trucks as competition, but others see the trucks as a way to diversify and expand food options.
Seth Morrisey, Seaside city councilor, said he recognizes restaurants’ concerns, but he sees food cart "pods" as being able to offer more options to residents who have a hard time finding a restaurant in the summer. He plans to introduce a proposal that would allow food trucks to operate on private property.
