The Springfield, Massachusetts city council passed an ordinance to regulate downtown food trucks, but will reconsider the plan next week, according to masslive.com.
The law allows permitting and fee collection for eight food trucks at parking spaces on two streets and for eight trucks at Riverfront Park.
Several area businesses objected, claiming they were not informed about the ordinance or the planned vote. There will be another vote at the next city council meeting on May 22.
Trucks would apply for a license from the Department of Public Works, pay an annual application fee of $75, and a quarterly permit fee of $150.
Trucks would be able to serve food or beverages from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. Dining areas with tables and chairs would not be permitted, and trucks can park overnight or be unattended and unsecured any time food is kept inside.
