Tennessee county finalizing food truck regs

September 14, 2020

Planning commissioners in Blount County, Tennessee, are putting final touches on food truck regulations that include application and permit fee requirements for food truck operators in the city of Townsend.

The officials also aim to limit mobile food truck vendors to festival events, according to a Daily Times report.

While there haven't been issues regarding food truck operations in the town, the local leaders aim to be proactive, according to the report.

The proposed regulations could be amended before being recommended to the city commission. If the regs were approved in the current state, food trucks would not be able to operate in city limits without a permit and would be limited to big community events.

The fees would include $50 for a business license plus a $25 application fee, as well as a $75 fee for each event permit.

"We've been very fortunate that so far there have not been any issues," Planning Commissioner Sandy Headrick said in the news outlet report. "That's what we're trying to do: prevent issues, because food trucks are popping up everywhere. We want to protect the integrity of the city."
