Following a six-month pilot program, Bastrop, Texas is working on a food truck ordinance aimed at fostering culinary business operations.
The goal, according to a Statesman report, is to encourage mobile food businesses that will hopefully lead to more physical brick-and-mortar restaurants. The ordinance features a three-tier permit strategy: one for trucks needing permanent city utility access, a second for trucks needs utility access on rented space and a third for self-sufficient trucks in regards to utility needs.
Officials said the goal is two-fold: to encourage mobile food trucks but not hurt local restaurants.
