Several food trucks in Lubbock, Texas joined together in a fundraiser for a local charity group called Lubbock Voice of Hope.
The initiative began in late 2021 before the Christmas holiday when several food truck operators, including Ashley Zubia, who owns the Llano Cubano truck, wanted to help out local residents during the holiday season, according to a Fox34.com report.
"We ended up feeding 921 people lunch and a dessert, for free. We fed some homeless people, and we went and parked at some of the apartment complexes that are lower socio-economic," Zubia told the news outlet. "So, after that, we were like, we got to keep doing this."
The most recent fundraising effort is Food Trucks for a Cause, a monthly event held on the last Sunday where the trucks sell near the Aldersgate Church and donate a percentage of sales, starting at 10%, to a local non-profit organization.
The August funds were donated to a rape crisis center called Voice of Hope.
"Every month we've done a minimum of $1,000, it's always over $1,000," Zubia told the news outlet. "The highest month we've had so far was about $1,600 and we did that for the Alzheimer's Association."
