Tyson Foods Inc.'s chicken recall, announced July 3, has increased from the initial 8.5 million pounds to nearly 9 million pounds following an update announced Thursday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The recall was updated to reflect additional date codes.

The product was shipped nationwide to retailers, restaurants, hospitals, nursing facilities, schools and Department of Defense sites.

The ready-to-eat, frozen, fully-cooked products could have been adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes, according to the USDA.

The products were produced from Dec. 26, 2020 to April 13, 2021 and carry the establishment number EST.P-7089 on the bag or inside the USDA inspection mark.

The USDA learned on June 9 that two individuals became ill with listeriosis and linked the illnesses to Tyson chicken products, according to the USDA. An investigation determined three illnesses, including one death, from April 6, 2021 to June 5, 2021.
