Virginia Beach food trucks ask city to update regulations

February 6, 2018

Food truck operators in Virginia Beach, Virginia, attended a city council meeting to request new regulations, according to The Virginia Pilot. Under existing rules, food trucks cannot park on streets for more than 15 minutes.

Bob Olson, owner of The Thirsty Frog food truck, said the existing rules make it impossible for food trucks to operate. He suggested a committee be formed with representation from food trucks, restaurants, the city council and zoning.

Food trucks in the city mostly go to businesses, like breweries or special events.

The city reviewed its food truck regulations a few years ago, said Kevin Hershberger, a zoning supervisor for the city. Food trucks are currently regulated under laws covering peddlers and ice cream trucks.
