Washington city to reduce food truck restrictions

December 11, 2018

The Puyallup, Washington, city council has approved a pilot food truck program to allow mobile vendors to serve more areas, according to Lori Johnson, executive director of the Washington State Food Trucks Association.

Current regulations require mobile vendors to get background checks before receiving a permit and limit them to serving on private property, according to the News Tribune. The vendors may not operate within 400 feet of a school or within 300 feet of authorized concession stands, public parks or restaurants.

City officials do not have an implementation date for the pilot and are still working on the details of the program, which could eliminate the requirement for background checks and reduce geographic restrictions.
