The Department of Regulatory and Consumer Affairs in Washington has canceled its policy of restricting food truck owners to one lottery entry to win a prime parking spot.
The decision came in response to complaints from food truck owners, according to the Washington City Paper. The DRCA has agreed to allow operators to enter more than one vehicle in the June 2018 MRV Lottery.
The D.C., Maryland and Virginia Food Truck Association objected earlier this month to a change in the way the department decides which trucks get the best spots in the city.
The department now says it will attempt to redefine the number of vehicles that can enter the lottery per business. It will also consider banning unauthorized trading of lottery spaces; implementing penalties for unused lottery spaces; increasing truck inspections; increasing enforcement of regulations; and identifying and vetting additional lottery locations.
The department has asked food truck operators to complete a survey so that it can gather information in order to make better-informed decisions concerning food trucks.
