The city of Racine, Wisconsin, has proposed regulations for food trucks and carts, according to The Journal Times.
Jeff Towne, an economic development specialist with the development department, said food trucks and carts presently receive street vendor licenses and are governed by the same regulations as door-to-door salespeople and balloon vendors, and are also inspected by the state health department and receive the same licenses as restaurants.
The proposed ordinance addresses application processing, parking, noise restrictions, signage, trash removal and operating on public or private property for food trucks. The proposed ordinance also prohibits a food truck or cart from operating within 50 feet of the front entrance of a licensed brick-and-mortar restaurant.
The ordinance is scheduled to be reviewed by the public safety and licensing committee on March 26.
