A rodeo in which food trucks are the star attraction

August 24, 2020

Think rodeo and you think horses, cattle, roping and riding.

But in Burlington, North Carolina food trucks are putting a new spin on the word.

Local food trucks are participating in a drive-thru food truck rodeo that's helping them stay in business and helping local residents enjoy great cuisine in a safe approach given the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first rodeo event, according to a Spectrum News report, drew just under a dozen food truck operators offering everything from fried chicken to cold creamy desserts.

The owner of Sidewalk café, Marty Headen, has owned his food truck business for 16 years. He says it's been a tough summer, but he's not giving up on it.

"Most of the events that I normally have, have been canceled, so this has allowed me to try and keep my business open. It's been hard but every little bit helps," Sidewalk Café food truck owner Marty Headen told the news outlet.

The next rodeo is happening Saturday, August 30 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Granddaddy's Antique Mall in Burlington.
