Dickey's Barbecue Pit is expanding its food truck business with the development of seven truck units.
The growing interest in the food truck concept is due, in part, to the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on the traditional dining and physical restaurant segment, according to a press release.
The 79-year-old barbecue franchise currently has just a few food truck operators but have organized three agreements for Texas and one in Georgia, California, Ohio and Florida in just the past six months.
"The pandemic is sure to have a lasting impact on consumer behavior and as a legacy brand it's important to us that we continue to meet the evolving needs of our guests, while staying true to our quality and consistent competition-style barbecue," Laura Rea Dickey, CEO of Dickey's Barbecue Restaurants, Inc., said in the release.
Some food truck operators are Dickey's franchisees and some are not. Franchisee Josh Wise, who owns a Newark, Ohio Dickey's store, said the truck will let his expand his brand and store business outside of the brick and mortar location.
