Delivery player, DoorDash, is debuting DashMart stores, a convenience mart delivering household and local restaurant fare to customers' doorsteps.

The DashMart features thousands of items, from grocery to healthcare items to packaged desserts from local eateries, according to a blog post.

They're owned and operated and curated by DoorDash.

DoorDash initially launched as a delivery service for merchant partners and added a convenience category last April, via partnerships with CVS, 7-Eleven, Walgreens and other retailers. In May it launched Main Street Strong, focused on restaurants grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Restaurants on DoorDash are four times more likely to have remained open during the pandemic compared to U.S. restaurants as a whole. Now more than ever, we're focused on finding innovative ways to help merchants grow their businesses and continue to keep their doors open," stated the blog.

The DashMart provides an "entirely new channel" for local businesses as well as national brands such as Brother's BBQ and The Cheesecake Factory. It's currently up and running in eight cities and will be expanded across the country in coming months, according to the blog post.

"Our mission is to connect customers to the best in their cities while helping any business on Main Street grow, and we hope to inspire even more local businesses — from restaurants and bakeries to artisanal shops and home goods retailers — to sell with us on DashMart," stated the blog post.
