Heat wave impacts Michigan food trucks

The heat wave impacting much of the country is also causing trouble for food truck operators including in Michigan. Owner Mike Saladio of Saladino Smoke in Alto, Michigan, said his kitchen can reach temperatures of up to 130 degrees Fahrenheit, according to a report by Wood TV.

With temperatures reaching the 90s, the friers can make temperatures climb even higher. Saladino said he has had to use floor fans, cold towels and popsicles to try to beat the heat. In addition, he has began cooking earlier to avoid the hotter parts of the day. He emphasized that the health of his employees comes first, and he will shut down during dangerous temperatures.

"I can't let the employees or guys, all the people that work with us, go down," he said in the report. "If it gets worse than that, it's just not worth it."
