The Milwaukee Common Council unanimously approved a change to food truck rules. It requires food trucks in downtown to close by 10 p.m., down from a previous limit of 1 a.m., according to a report by Fox 6 Now.
Council members claim that this move was made to deal with increasing violence in the downtown area late at night.
"We are doing everything we can to quell the violence and disorder that has plagued the downtown entertainment districts. MPD and other stakeholders testified that food trucks were a contributing factor to this violence and disorder," Alderman Robert Bauman said in the report.
Food truck operators have spoken out about this rule change, claiming it will force them to shut down, such as Abdallah Ismail, owner of Fatty Patty food truck.
"If we close at 10, we lose everything," Ismail said in the report. "We have to close. That's it. There's no work anymore."
