Jersey City, New Jersey will no longer allow food trucks to park for free on Sussex Street and Grand Street, a change that some food truck owners say will make it impossible for them to survive, according to an msn.com report.
Trucks will now have to pay $40 a day on Sussex Street and $200 a day on Montgomery Street.
Stacey Flanagan, the city's director of health and human services, said the free parking on Grand Street was a pilot program to encourage waterfront business, but the trucks are taking business from brick-and-mortar restaurants.
Flanagan said the fees are based on general costs and the real estate value of establishing a business in the space.
