The Washington, D.C. area is short on food trucks these days primarily due to mandates to stay-at-home during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
One local food truck owner calls the impact to the small business food truck sector "severe," according to a WTOP News report.
A recent survey by a local food truck group revealed 43% of operators are relying on personal funds to stay in business while 24% are getting support from family and friends to stay in operation.
Typically nearly 1,000 trucks work the D.C. streets during the peak food truck season and at this point 90% are no longer around, according to the report.
That's because the food truck customer is no longer around as office workers are now working from home and not D.C. buildings.
