New York food truck gives a helping hand to local community

June 4, 2020

A Ghent, New York food truck owner is giving a helping hand to those who may find paying for a meal tough given job layoffs in the wake of COVID-19.

Adam Moon, owner of Moon Dog's Food Truck in Columbia County, is operating its payment for food on an honor system — once customers are given a receipt to pay no one watches so that in case someone can't pay they aren't embarrassed, according to a WYNT report.

"What happens is you come up; you order your food. Typically, we don't tell you your total until you get your food. We tell you your total and we walk away. We keep the bucket to the side. That just makes it so if anybody can't afford it they aren't going to miss a meal," Moon told the news outlet.

The approach is even drawing donations from diners in terms of support, he said.
