North Carolina food truck adjusts in wake of coronavirus pandemic

June 22, 2020

It's been trying times for food truck operators, but a North Carolina food truck is doing steady business thanks to a strategy change.

The Wutyasay food truck, whose owner Roger Billingsley-Hayes had $10,000 in bookings just before COVID-19 hit hard, initially did no business as the pandemic forced business closures and stay-at-home orders. Then he decided to start doing business at a church where he also serves as a senior pastor, according to a Winston-Salem Journal report.

Serving from the lot at the ReNewal Fellowship United Church of Christ has proved to be a winning approach. Initially the truck served Fridays and Saturdays and then added Thursdays last month.

"It's not the same (as before the pandemic), but we're able to stay viable," Billingsley-Hayes told the media outlet. "We had to move to a model that works."
