Ohio food trucks eager to do business at rest stops in light of COVID-19

April 20, 2020

More than 200 food truck operators have applied for permits to work at rest stops in Ohio.

The news comes as truck operators scramble to figure out how to keep trucks rolling in the wake of the global COVID-19 pandemic which has shuttered business districts and recreational areas — prime locations for food truck operations.

The state of Ohio began accepting permits for rest stop operations on April 10, according to a Dayton Daily News report. The move is also a way to help feed truckers who now often have trouble finding places to eat.

"Truck drivers are the lifeblood of the economy and their jobs have never been more critical than now. I've heard from many in the trucking industry that finding a place to eat while they’'re on the road has been tough, but we're here to help," said Ohio Governor Mike DeWine in a statement on the rest area strategy.
