Pandemic doesn't stop Michigan food truck launch

August 12, 2020

While the U.S. is seeing a resurgence of COVID-19 the coronavirus pandemic did not stop two Michigan brothers from launching a food truck operation.

In fact the Southwest Michigan residents viewed it as an opportunity to move into new careers, according to a Second Wave report.

James and Thomas Woodin launched Serious Dogs after James was furloughed from his hospitality role and Thomas left his job as a train conductor.

Serious Dogs is a gourmet hot dog food truck based in Battle Creek and its menu offers lots of variety (cream cheese topping for one). They special order in the buns and butter and grill them.

"I think it's hard for people to imagine what our hot dogs look like and when they see them, they're shocked at how large they are," James Woodin told the media outlet. "We top it to the hills and you have to hold it in your hands to fully realize what it is."

The duo has been busy participating in local food truck events as well as setting up at local farmers markets as well as serving from their home base on Beadle Lake Road and Main Street.

"We heard specifically what a terrible time it was to start, but it hasn't slowed us down too much," James Woodin told the news outlet. "We were kind of lucky with the trailer aspect because there is no indoor seating to worry about and people know they can social distance and sit safely outside and eat their hot dogs."
