Penn campus food truck goes social for support

October 16, 2020

The Magic Carpet Foods, a food truck well known to those on the Penn State campus, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help keep it up and running.

The truck, which offers vegetarian food, has been hit hard financially since the campus closed at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. While it reopened in early August business is still very slow, according to a Daily Pennsylvanian report.

Owners Dean and Debbie Varvoutis said the truck is doing about 10% of its usual business..

"[The] University is quiet. Even though we're doing online delivery too, the majority of the students living up around 40th Street are not really walking down, so we are relying on the adults," Manager Debbie Varvoutis told the news outlet.
