Savannah opening arms to food trucks despite COVID-19

April 2, 2020

In most cities food trucks are having a hard time finding a spot and adhering to social distancing mandates but that's not the case in Savannah, Georgia.

The state's emergency declaration requires food truck owners to be 200 feet from a restaurant and follow distancing guidelines but officials and residents are also cognizant that food trucks are needed by residents and efforts to keep them in business are worthwhile, according to a WTOC report.

One food truck pop up is taking place on East 57th Street and the walkway is marked to help remind customers of the six-foot space rule.

"Anything that we can do to get people to safely congregate, enjoy one another's company, hang out with the dogs, catch up on what's been going on the last few days, make sure everybody's happy and healthy...if they need anything, we’re here for them. And to put a smile on everybody's face in this very difficult time," Savannah resident Stephanie Hendrick told the news outlet.
