Springfield's Route 66 to have food truck park and diner

April 15, 2019

The historic Route 66 in Springfield, Missouri will soon be the home of a food truck park and diner, according to a Springfield News-Leader report.

The food establishments are the quest of Kirk Wheeler, who has operated a motorcycle/truck business for nearly two decades. He is turning a car lot parcel at 1530 East St. Louis St. into the Birthplace of Route 66 Food Truck Park and Diner, offering space for 10 trucks and a full-service bar in the restaurant, according to the report. The diner's interior will not boast a kitchen but will offer a place for food truck patrons to eat.

"People can come there and sit down in climate-controlled atmosphere and order from one of the 10 different restaurants in the parking lot," Wheeler told the media outlet.

Wheeler hopes to have the food truck park up and running for the Birthplace of Route 66 Festival in early August.
