Texas food truck park has a dual purpose

October 14, 2020

Jake's Place, a food truck park in Sherman, Texas, isn't just about offering local residents unique food fare.

It's also a place where autistic children and adults can enjoy themselves, according to a News 12 report. The truck park was created by a local man, Barry Reed, whose son is a highly functional autistic.

"This is something we all wanted to do for him. It's something that he enjoys doing, he graduates from Whitesboro high school this year and after he gets out of school we wanted a place for him to come and have fun with all his friends," Reed told the news outlet.

The park's opening day drew nearly 1,000 attendees and is home to anywhere from three to five trucks a day.

"We're planning car shows, jeep shows, bike shows, we're going to have a flea market outside probably starting early next year," Reed said.
