Food Truck Spotlight

Bringing a little taste of Italy to Atlanta

Alessio Lacco and Sofía Arango launched the Atlanta Pizza Truck at the start of the pandemic last March in a quest to bring a little bit of Italy to their community. Their recently launched second truck is a three-wheeled 1982 Vespa-truck converted into a pizza-making machine.

Food Truck: Atlanta Pizza Truck

Cuisine: Neapolitan pizza

Operators: Alessio Lacco and Sofía Arango

Founded: April, 2020

Location: Atlanta, Georgia

Is this your first truck or one in a fleet: We have 2 trucks

Do you operate a brick-and-mortar location: No

How did you come up with the name: We wanted an easy name for people to remember

What prompted you to start a food truck: We wanted to bring a little taste of Italy to our city

Do you make all the food on the truck or do you use home-based kitchen or commissary space: Commissary space

Best part of being a food truck operator: We get to go around the city, meet new people and places.

What is the worst part of being a food truck operator: Weather conditions play an important role in this business.

What lessons have you learned since launching the truck: We have learned a lot! We have modified our menu quite a few times to add more and more items because people were looking for more meat/veggie options.

Is there anything you would have done differently at the start: We would have incorporated all the items we have now to our menu and we would have focus as well in connecting with other vendors

Any tips/advice to others thinking of launching a food truck: Connecting with your customers as well as vendors is the key of everything.

Do you have any anecdotes about running a food truck: We participated, along with the restaurant 'Taste of Italy,' in a massive donation made to the Northside Hospital (Canton location). It was more than 500 pizzas donated that day, we finished in 4 hours! We also have a couple regulars we would like to thank. They find us every two or three times in the month no matter how far we are from their location and we really appreciate their business.
