Fernando Jaregui Orchoa, 30, of Ceres, California, was convicted of running a fraud operation targeting victims seeking to start their own food trucks. Prosecutors say that this fraud totaled more than $500,000, according to areport by ABC 10.
He was convicted of 18 counts of obtaining money by fraud and one count of witness intimidation.
Prosecutors claim he would take money from vulnerable people and claim to pay for a truck. Instead, he would use the money for drugs, vacations or expenses.
He is scheduled to be sentenced to 20 years in prison and pay $1 million in restitution.
