St. Johns County commissioners unanimously approved an ordinance for food trucks. This vote was sparked by a controversy surrounding the food truck park The Outpost, which was temporarily shut down after alleged code violations, according to a report by News 4 Jax.
"We got a violation, a code violation, which really kind of initiated the entire process of really peeling back the onion and kind of seeing that St. Johns County just didn't really have an operational definition for food truck parks and how they could operate or how they were supposed to operate," Justin Tahilramani, owner of The Outpost, said in the report.
The revised ordinance allows food trucks and parks in highway commercial, high-intensity commercial and rural commercial zones. It also limits food trucks to 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Food truck parks must provide parking spaces, water, wastewater, grease interceptors and comply with ADA regulations.
In addition, trucks must be at least 100 feet away from residential buildings.
