The Morgantown Parking Authority has issued an apology after mistakenly distributing draft policy proposals to local food truck vendors that outlined steep new fees and reduced operating hours, according to a report by Dominion Post.
The authority confirmed Monday that no changes will take effect Nov. 1 as originally stated in draft contracts given to vendors. Officials clarified that any future policy updates must be vetted and officially approved by the City Council or City Manager.
The draft proposal included a 40% reduction in operating hours, an additional 10% gross profit fee alongside the existing $25 daily permit, and a $1,000 security deposit for potential property damage or uncollected waste.
"The Morgantown Parking Authority recognizes that information stemming from internal discussions should not be shared until it has been properly vetted and approved. If there are any changes to the Morgantown vending program, they will be announced by the City Manager or approved by City Council if they involve a change in ordinances," the authority stated in a release.
Local vendors expressed deep concern over the draft's economic impact. Louis Cordero, owner of The Island PR Fusion, noted that losing two operating hours would cut his nightly earnings in half while skyrocketing monthly city fees from $300 to nearly $1,500. Other operators, including the owners of Harlow's Grill and T&L Hot Dog Cart, warned that such fees would force them to pass costs onto students or reduce employee hours.
