Pierce County, Washington, is coming down on unpermitted food carts, kiosks and trucks. The Pierce County Council cited concerns over foodborne illnesses, according to a report by Komo News.
A proposal aims to restrict these operators, making it illegal to operate between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. or be on public streets or within five feet of an alley. Several of the issues noted from these unlicensed carts is improper meat storage, temperature controls and improper handwashing facilities.
Violaters could face a misdemeanor charge or fine up to $1,000, 90 days in jail, or both.
